Who Are We to Judge?

Who are we to “JUDGE?” Well, yes & a big fat NO.

There is a judgment condemned by Scripture, and it is HYPOCRITICAL judgment.

There is a judgment encouraged by Scripture, and it is RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT.

So…judge not? Yes. AND — a big fat NO.

In the words of Paul Washer, “People tell me, “judge not lest ye be judged.” I always tell them, “Twist not scripture lest ye be like Satan.”

So, let’s untwist the oftentimes twisted Scriptures, shall we?

Condemned Judgement

“Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
‭‭MATTHEW‬ ‭7:1-5‬ ‭

What does this mean? You are commanded not to execute judgement hypocritically!

For example, as a woman, if I was married and I was disrespecting my husband, I should not judge another woman for disrespecting her husband, because I would be guilty of the same sin as her!

If I was a drunkard, and I was judging alcoholics, I would be judged by God!

These are two examples of hypocritical judgment.

What judgment is encouraged by Scripture?

Instructed to Judge

“But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.”
‭‭1 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭5:11-13‬ ‭

We are to judge good and evil inside of the CHURCH! We are to judge teachings, practices, etc. by the Word of God!

In John 7:24, Jesus said: “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

The Bible tells us to rebuke, correct and exhort!

“I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.”
‭‭2 TIMOTHY‬ ‭4:1-2

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
‭‭2 TIMOTHY‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭

The Bible tells us to exhort and rebuke with all authority.

“Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.”
‭‭Titus‬ ‭2:15‬

The Bible tells us to not partake in unfruitful deeds of darkness, but that we should rather expose unfruitful deeds of darkness!

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:11‬ ‭

So yes! Christians are indeed supposed to execute RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT, with the Word of God being our standard!

Righteous Judgement is not…

1. DIVISIVE” ✅ (TRUTH unites, FALSE DOCTRINE divides)
7. ETC.

So, should you judge? Yes – and a big fat NO

Repent of hypocrisy, but judge righteously.
